Autism Maps -- New Hampshire
Between 2000 and 2010 New Hampshire had dramatic growth in both Autism diagnoses and the Autism ratio in the 3 through 21 age group. This is similar to all other US states except Iowa. Also similar to many other states, New Hampshire experienced a decrease in Specific Learning Disability (SLD) diagnoses during the decade. Among other conditions that sometimes have an overlap with Autism -- Mental Retardation, Emotional Disturbance and Speech/Language disorder diagnoses all decreased; Developmental Delay and "Other" diagnoses both increased.
From 2000 to 2010 the New Hampshire population increased from 1,235,786 to 1,316,470. The population from age 3 through 21 decreased slightly from 331,179 to 322,275. The total for All Disabilites from ages 3 through 21 decreased very slightly from 30,077 to 29,920. During that decade, Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnoses experienced a large increase from 397 to 1,726; Specific Learning Disability Diagnoses (SLD) experienced a decrease from 13,342 to 11,266; Mental Retardation diagnoses declined from 1,010 to 820; Emotional Disturbance diagnoses decreased from 2,554 to 2,294; Speech/Language Disorder diagnoses decreased from 6,898 to 5,432; Developmental Delay diagnoses increased from 1,009 to 2,412; and "Other" diagnoses increased from 3,747 to 5,038.

The animated map above shows the change in the number of diagnosed ASD and Specific Learning Disability (SLD) cases from 2000 through 2010. The points reflect the increase/decrease in diagnoses statewide, but are not indicative of where in the state they occurred.
